In this article I am going to record my experiences of applying JENESYS. As many of you might know about JENESYS- which stands for “Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths”. It is an exchange program to gather youths from overseas to Japan every year on various concerned topics in order to promote mutual understanding and friendship with Japanese youths and citizens.
I have known this name “JENESYS” since I was a freshman at university without knowing what this scholarship exactly was, I started to apply after hearing that it would give me a ticket to Japan. At the very first time of applying this program, I was lucky to reach an interview round. However, it was not easy when you lacked of any interview experience. After my first interview, I knew exactly what was my downfall on the interview. I remembered sharing this failure to friends and they were selected finally. I would proudly say that I did help them with tiny point on what should not do on the interview. In contrast, I did not get any chance to resolve my failure because my application form just lacked of passion and ambition.
Surprisingly, some excitement had happened to me. I was randomly called to have interview for exchanged program in Singapore. And I did it for my first time leaving my own country to see new window of the world wide. I thought it was because of JENESYS; it had inspired me to never give up on my dream and keep doing for it ;)
Because of JENESYS, I always wanted to improve my English and totally believe that one day I will win this program and fly to Japan. About 2–3 years I have built up myself in order to apply for exchanged program which not only JENESYS, but also another available scholarship. The result was I got 3 different exchanged programs in 3 different countries, but still not for JENESYS. Since my freshman to sophomore, I had submitted application form nearly 10 times with no any interview round. I definitely did try every JENESYS themes without losing hope.
At almost my last chance, it was because I came to be the university senior, I finally was a winner with my 13th application form. This 13th time, I got a chance to show my passion on an interview session. I never forgot the word I said to committees on my belief that “I might fail a thousand time, but I will absolutely have one time win”. And yes! I did it :)
It was and is my proud, a lesson-learned that ‘when something is hard to get, it is worth to fight for and this great memories will always stay with you’.
From this story, I would like to tell you that if you have your dream, you go fight for it. The more you fail, the more you know value of your own strength. You can do better than this. Believe me you are more than what you think you are. Do not limit your strength, it is inside you.
Note*: In this story purpose, I do not have any intention to show off about myself, but I would like to just record this history-me that might encourage you to dream more and work more on it.
Note**: Everything will always come with the right time, just learn to wait and keep working.
